Nano IA2

IA2: Application of the nanolayers with antibacterial and antiviral properties for medical and social facilities

Sol is an organic-inorganic polymer solution that creates gel after the solvent evaporates. This thin jelly layer is then fixated by heat polymerization or photo-polymerization on the surface of the desired item or material. Nanolayer (named AD25) functions on the principle of synergy between Ag, Cu and Zn, that were incorporated into the polymer and then to the layer in a form of cations using ion bonds to inorganic parts of the hybrid polymer. The mentioned cations have bacterio-static effect that stems from their ability to penetrate the biological membrane of the bacteria and effect necessary processes of proteosythesis and DNA replication.

Nanolayer properties

Thickness – 80-300 nm (average 150 nm)

Average pore size in the layer – 3-30 nm

Mechanical resistance (galling) – load of 750 g/5000 cycles

Chemical resistance (dissolved layers):

• Toluene, acetone, IPA – 15 min.

• Sulfuric acid (96%), nitric acid (1:1),

• Muriatic acid (1:1) – after 15 min.

Does not resist - HF (1:1), NaOH (25%) – 15 min.

Stability test:

The layer applied on the glass is stable after repeated sterilizations 1h/120°C.

Cytotoxicity tests:

No cytotoxic effect was observed of the heat-polymerized AD25 or after photo polymerization on the VERO and HeLa cells.

Advantages of the new technology

Presently, there is no technology on the market that would resemble this technology in effect of complex anti-microbial protection. Its effects are one of the most effective protections with anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-mycotic properties that last for approximately one hour. Currently used disinfection means (chlorine, steam…) have only temporal antibacterial activity or endanger the environment. The production and preparation of the polymer solution is verified and ready for immediate transfer to the industrial production, while various technological applications are tested on many types of substrates (for example one time medical tools). This technology is protected by three patents.

Function and application

Antimicrobial layer is prepared by application of a special sol on the surface of various objects and materials and its finishing polymerization. The final layer has verified effectiveness against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Acinetobacter baumanii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other pathogens) also against viruses (HIV, H1N1, Dengue, HSV1) and against fungi (Candida albicans, Candida glabrata). The basic function of the antimicrobial cleanness is active during the normal lighting and also in the darkness. If we use UV A (sunlight, UV A lightbulb) which significantly increases the function, the SOL is able to kill almost all bacteria and viruses on the surface within minutes. This technology is applicable in medical care (surgery, transplantation, ER, waiting rooms, etc.) and social facilities (schools, cafeterias, and other social facilities) or in the food industry.
