IA6: Laminated roof covers with nanofibrous membrane

At the Technical University of Liberec the scientist created new laminated materials with nanofibrous membrane. This new technology finds wide use in the textile and construction industry. Products improved with nanofibre technology have about 50% decreased weight, higher steam permeability and higher resistance to water. The technology is cost efficient and ready to be used. The final product will have improved properties with the costs comparable with materials on the market. Further research will lead to decrease in costs.

Advantages of the nanofibrous membrane

Nanofibrous membrane can be used in medical, chemical, food and water/air treatment industries. Their advantage is very high efficiency and low costs, keeping high permeability. Typical parameters of new laminates with nanofibres according to the norm are as follows:

• Permeability: 0,02 - 0,03 [m];

EN ISO 12572; resp. 1500 g/m2/24h

• Resistance to water: min. W2

[Class] EN 1928 (A)

• Resistance to air:

0,1 [m3/m2•h•100 Pa] EN 12114

• Heat resistance min.: -30 to 90 [°C];

• Resistance to UV light: [months]

• Mechanical resistance: 90 [N];

EN 12310-1

Comparison of the laminates with nanofibrous layer

Steam-permeable laminates for technical applications are nowadays composed of spun bond and PP membrane that is able to stop water, 1500 mm H2O. Surface weight is between 90 to 150 g/m2.

Technology advantages:

Roof cover improved with nanofibrous membrane is lighter than other products on the market. It has especially good isolation properties.
