CXI in action: we showed research to journalists from foreign media

12. 7. 2022

The Research Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovations (CXI for short) prepared a science showcase for journalists from leading European media. Other faculties of the Technical University of Liberec also presented themselves in the laboratories of the L building. Scientists shared their unique science and research results with the invited guests and showed how they collaborate interdisciplinary across university teams. This is the first visit in the context of the Czech EU Presidency.

During the meeting in Liberec - held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 - we presented research from our university to nearly 50 representatives of the European media. The delegation of nearly 50 journalists was intensively attended by science and research ambassadors from our university, specifically from the Institute for Nanomaterials, Advanced Technologies and Innovations, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Textiles and the Faculty of Mechatronics, Informatics and Interdisciplinary Studies.

"At our Institute and throughout our University, we are focused on achieving our research mission. To be among the top leaders in applied research in the Czech Republic and at the same time to establish our position on an international scale. We are working towards this goal and establishing cooperation with research institutions in Europe, Asia and America," explained Miroslav Černík, Director of CXI TUL.

The Technical University of Liberec is the cradle of industrial production of nanofibres. The main topic of the visit was nanofibers and their applications. The agenda of the scientific exhibition included: nanomaterials and their use in water treatment and ecological loads clean up, as well as energy sustainability - the delegation was introduced to an autonomous electric vehicle for industry, it was possible to test drive the formula. In addition, we presented hybrid materials and the future IDM² (intelligent design materials) project, following the European Green Deal call to promote green manufacturing. We arranged a tour of the various laboratories, where robotic exhibits were on display, including ROBOTUL - a glass surface cleaner, as well as Hololens glasses and augmented reality applications, a softener, an air purifier, a 3D printing workstation, and geopolymers and composite materials.

The main domain of science and research at the Technical University of Liberec is innovation. We carry out projects primarily for industrial practice and we are successful in this. Among Czech universities we stand out in the number of cited patents. Over the last twenty years, researchers from the Technical University of Liberec have been credited with 170 patents.
