The increasing worldwide concern regarding water pollution, which has harmful impacts on human health and aquatic habitats, has led to a concentration on innovative remedies. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are composed of metal ions and multifunctional organic ligands. They possess a pore shape that can be adjusted and is highly regular, which makes them crucial in the field of wastewater treatment (WWT). Water-stable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), specifically, demonstrate notable benefits in membrane separation and adsorption technologies. Moreover, the crystalline hybrid material category known as MOFs shows potential in tackling a wide range of issues, including health, water, and sustainable energy, thanks to its remarkable porosity, chemical adaptability, and flexibility to be modified for specific functions. The translation of MOF-based technologies is impeded by the requirement for precise regulation of their structure and properties at different scales, despite their considerable potential. This unique methodology goes beyond the scope of wastewater treatment and has practical uses in separation, storage, sensing, and other diverse areas. In this study, our main objective is to investigate the application of nanomaterial-based composites as metal-organic frameworks in the context of wastewater treatment. The NanoMOF is in perfect alignment with the goals of COST Action (CA22147), which aims to investigate the use of nanomaterial-based composites as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for the purpose of wastewater treatment. Our project focuses on contributing to the characterization and evaluation of MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks) in the context of wastewater treatment, specifically within Working Group 3 (WG3) of the COST Action (CA22147). Our contribution to the currently running COST Action (CA22147) focuses on exploring the use of nanomaterial-based composites as metal-organic frameworks for wastewater treatment. Our involvement in the current COST Action (CA22147) is framed in Working Group 3 (WG3); MOF characterization and performance evaluation, task 2; Evaluate performance using established high-throughput screening methods, activity iii) Wastewater treatment. The project aims to improve the understanding and application of MOFs in porous materials research by using established high-throughput screening methods to evaluate performance and address the challenges of oil-water separation. This aligns with the goals and collaborative spirit of COST Action (CA2214).
