Chiral substances are essential and widely used in medicine. Enantiomers often have different physical and chemical properties in the chiral (human) environment, and therefore separation of individual enantiomers is necessary to produce enantiomeric pure drugs with desirable therapeutic effects and minimal adverse reactions. Continuous membrane separation has many advantages and has great potential in the separation of enantiomers for the production of safe drugs. The presented project represents a unique method of separation of racemic mixtures that use chiral composite magnetic membranes and paramagnetic ionic liquids exposed to rotational and magnetic levitation forces. Based on molecular dynamics modelling, optimal experimental conditions will be determined to enable efficient separation of enantiomers from the racemic mixture, which is essential in the pharmaceutical industry and beyond.
