The goal of the project is the development and testing of 3D printed biocompatible implants for veterinary applications. The emergence of non-physiological cavities in the bone mass, defects after tumor removal and extensive long bone injuries in pets lead to an increased demand for appropriate care and new products for veterinary medicine. Extensive requirements are placed on these products, especially in terms of dimensions, structure and strength. The obvious reason is the variety of animal species and the size of the patients. Therefore, the most appropriate solution appears to be the creation of personalized implants tailored to each patient. Such a procedure is offered by the technology of 3D printing of polymer materials and resins, which enables the creation of high-strength, degradation-stable and at the same time biocompatible implants in precise dimensions and with sufficient porosity enabling osseointegration. For these reasons, the project will deal with the development of a material and structural portfolio of 3D printed bone implants with wide use in veterinary medicine.
