Environmental pollution is one of stress challenges for all living organisms. Heavy metal concentrations in global rivers, and agricultural soils rise every year and go far above the standard threshold limits and become a serious risk for whole ecosystem. Microorganisms are capable of reducing heavy metal toxicity by various mechanisms. However, the efficiency of this process depends on composition of microbial community and its activity. Majority of indigenous bacteria in environment remains undiscovered. The proposed project aims to determine microbial gene activity in soils of former mining sites with focus on description of factors influencing expression of metal resistant and stress regulator genes in time. The expected results are in accord with national priority areas 3.3.1.1.1, 3.3.1.3.1 a 3.3.1.3.3. Results will help to describe the functional diversity of soil microorganisms necessary to overcome gained heavy metal toxicity with respect to increase of retention capacity of wetland soils.
