Project:
Integrated PFAS remediation using combined electro-nano and biological system
Realization period:01.06. 2025 – 31.05. 2028
Leader at TUL:Ing. Jaroslav Nosek, Ph.D.
The overall aim of this project is to translate two very promising technologies for PFAS remediation from TRL3 to initial piloting (TRL6) based on the outcomes of the H2020 EiCLaR project to provide a holistic approach for soil and water contamination to enable combined vadose and saturated zone treatments and / or integrated source and pathway management.
1. Groundwater treatment: Electro-nano-bio remediation (ENB-PFAS)
2. Soil treatment: Electrokinetic treatment (EK-PFAS)
The project aim will be reached using these specific objectives
1. Technical upscaling from TRL3 to TRL6, i.e. lab to field pilot
2. Development of integrated (soil and groundwater) treatment concepts and their testing at field pilot scale
3. Providing a technical evidence base for key stakeholders (including fate of compound, mass balances studies) to support further upscaling post-project
4. Benchmarking studies: comparing the risk reduction, cost and sustainability outcomes for technologies ENB-PFAS, EK-PFAS, against currently adopted solutions across a series of real site option appraisals with external stakeholders
5. Building a business case and constituency of interest for further scale up and rollout (post TRL9) and initiation of a project pipeline
6. Achieving a strong European market presence (communication, dissemination and exploitation activities)
7. Robust project management and securing a defined set of KPI targets
