Czech-German Climate Dialogue Liberec: together against climate challenges

23. 11. 2023

The climate "boiler" is not going out and the impacts of climate change are tangible in the Czech Republic and Germany. That is why both countries organised the Czech-German Climate Dialogue, a series of expert meetings in Prague, Brno, České Budějovice and Liberec. In Liberec, lectures and discussions were held on urban climate adaptation, and several presentations were given by experts from practice - cities, universities and zoos from both the Czech and German sides of the border.

What measures against climate change and biodiversity loss have been launched in our cities in recent years? How have cities and regions in the Czech Republic and Germany managed to implement partial climate change activities? Experts discussed the promotion of biodiversity and climate resilience in cities on Monday 20 November at the Czech-German Climate Dialogue at the Experimental Studio in Liberec.

Tomas Lederer from CXI was also a keynote speaker. He presented the LIFE4ZOO project, which will make water reuse and water efficiency more efficient for Zoo Liberec and Zoo Barcelona. In both gardens, a team of scientists designed a "circular economy" system for water use. This "water recycling" is designed for multiple water uses and reuse instead of a single linear use. The benefits of water circularization are reduced demand on primary water sources, reduced and cost-saving water use, reduced demand on sewage systems, and multiple synergies with better use of energy and water resources.

Increased pressure to protect the environment creates challenges and opportunities for both countries. The key question is how the Czech Republic and Germany can effectively strengthen their activities and be successful in adapting to climate challenges.
