Innovative testing improves the reliability of support arms in hospitals

29. 8. 2024

The laboratory of the Department of Mechatronic Systems and Robotics at CXI TUL is currently testing support arms used as holders for monitors and devices in hospitals. In cooperation with MZ Liberec, intensive testing is underway to increase the durability and reliability of these key components of hospital equipment.

Robotic testing in action

The support arms on which the monitors and other devices are mounted undergo demanding stress tests at the CXI TUL institute. "We use the KUKA industrial robot to perform cyclical stress tests," explains Tomáš Martinec from CXI TUL.

Dušan Kraus, Head of Development at MZ Liberec, adds: "The testing methods allow us to identify critical points in the arm design. This allows us to significantly optimize our product design.
and manufacturing process. Our goal is to produce arms that are not only more durable, but also more ergonomic for medical staff."

This innovative approach to testing allows researchers to identify potential weaknesses in the design of the arms. The aim is not only to extend their lifespan, but also to ensure maximum reliability in daily use by healthcare personnel.

Significance for the healthcare sector

The results of this research have a direct impact on safety for healthcare professionals and patients. The project collaboration shows how cooperation between academia and an industrial partner can bring concrete benefits

to society. The use of industrial robots for testing medical devices opens up new possibilities
in the development and quality control of medical devices.
