NanoBeast provides basic research aiming to revolutionize the recovery of transition metals from waste and the synthesis of nanoparticles. The approach integrates the ultra-selective electrodialysis (ED) with prepared cation exchange membranes, incorporating weak chelating agents synthesized through multicomponent reactions. The aim is to facilitate targeted metal ion transport in ED-based fractioning. The permeate is then utilized for the laser-based synthesis of nanoparticles comprising an appealing element distribution to heterogeneous nanocatalysts. The consortium, composed of international experts in polymer processing, ED practices, and laser-based nanomaterial synthesis, synergistically share their competencies to enable the revalorisation of critical transition metals like Co from battery waste, fostering a circular economy. NanoBeast aims to prepare scientific background for recycling heavily polluting waste into a valuable mineral source for precise nanomaterial production, advancing resource conservation, pollution reduction, and energy efficiency improvement.
