Anotace projektu:

Project annotation:
Aerogels are characterized by an extraordinary nanoporous structure, which predetermines their use as optimal materials for thermal protection. However, aerogels are usually mechanically brittle and thus unsuitable for thermal insulation of geometrically complex structures that require flexibility in the insulation materials. The flexibility of the structures can be controlled in two ways: "induced" or "inherent". Most commercially available flexible aerogels are 'induced flexible aerogels', where the flexibility of the structure is induced by additives and components other than the aerogel material itself. Instead of "forcing" flexibility into the structure with additives, i-FACES develops single component "inherently flexible aerogels" based on the properties of polyolefins and polyvinyls that are inherently mechanically flexible under normal temperature conditions. In addition, advanced composites with developed aerogels and "smart" functionalities based on thermochromic materials will be developed. To improve the environmental impact, recycled materials will be used for the development of aerogels.
